My culinary journey began long before I became a professional chef. My grandmother, whom we called Avó, was my first inspiration in the kitchen — and my father was a chef too. She introduced me to the traditions and flavors of Portuguese cooking, and growing up around food taught me that cooking is about culture, family, creativity, and bringing people together.

At 15, I began working in restaurant kitchens as a dishwasher and prep cook. I followed my passion to the Illinois Institute of Art in Chicago, earning my Associate of Science in Culinary Arts in 2009, and went on to build more than 20 years of professional experience in respected, high-end kitchens — including establishments recognized by the Michelin Guide and the James Beard Foundation, alongside a 4× James Beard Semi-Finalist Best Chef nominee in the Northeast.

My career later grew into culinary management, leadership and private chef services — preparing daily meals for large communities and creating personalized dining experiences in clients' own homes.

As a Deaf chef and business owner, my journey has included challenges that have shaped my determination, creativity and perspective. I take pride in my craft, my independence, and the experience I bring to every kitchen I enter.
